Foaled November 3, 2007
Born with almost a full winter coat, ready for the cold weather.
These first photos are taken a day after birth.

It was warm enough today to take them outside for a few minutes, here are some "action" pictures.

Almost a week later...the snow has melted and he is a lot more coordinated and filled out.

The following is the best sequence I caught on film today, this little guy can really move...a lot of the pictures were of him not touching the ground.

November 24th ~ Back to snow on the ground again, this time it looks like it will stay...

December 9th - More snow, a few more pictures... just over a month old now.

Looking more grown-up and shedding winter hair for a dark brown color, lots of white in mane and tail...

January 6th, 2008
Beautiful weather, near zero some days, the horses love it!
This colt is now two months old and although it is still cold out, he is shedding out real dark brown on his face, knees, inside legs and the dark color can be seen under his winter coat, with lots more white hair coming in on his mane. We have been told he will be liver chestnut, but chocolate brown with white mane and tail would be nice too.
Now he looks like a bandit...

The mare is more interested in the moose strolling through the pasture, while the colt watches the other horses.
I take them out of the stall to run in the pasture, and they both run for about 10 seconds, then just stand and watch me or look around unless we chase them.

Beam and Ritz colt are together with another mare and fall colt we picked up so we could wean them together. This little guy is really built heavily and thick and has very good bone and at this point looks like a chubby pony.
He is now 3 and a half months old. Good thing the neck is the last thing to grow...

Going to be a good looking colt (we think).
Have to run, that's all for now.

Update: Key to the Ritz was Reserve Champion Colt at the TWHBEA Regional Futurity September 2007.
He seemed to be worn out from his first trailer ride and being stabled away from home, so did not show his best. There was no official photographer, but we had friends take some candid shots.

February 17th UPDATE:

Key to the Ritz has left for Tennessee and should arrive in Fayetteville before the end of February.
He will be well cared for at Bridlewood Farm by the Washburn family and staff.
NO more snow for Key to the Ritz!
February 26
Key to the Ritz has arrived safely in Tennessee.
He has had a 4 day trip and will be tired for awhile, but should be back to his normal self within a week.
Also, the change in temperature (minimum 80 degrees) should help him shed his Canadian winter coat.
May 29 2009
Key to the Ritz showed at Petersburg and won the colt class, beating the top rated yearling!
He also showed at the Spring Fun show on the Celebration grounds, and placed a respectable 3rd!

Key is now for sale, please contact us if you are interested.
